A benchmark statement is a formal, often stylized declaration that defines the scope, nature, and metaphysical positioning of a being, concept, or structure within a fictional cosmology. It serves as a reference point (or “benchmark”) for determining where a character or entity fits in the hierarchy of existence. Due to the nature of the beings, most, if not all, benchmark statements can only be made outside of the fiction itself.
